    movie editing software

can anyone recommend some simple to use video editing software.
i have some small avi's of my lads nursery graduation, that i would like to knit together into one with some background music.
i tried using "windows live movie maker", wasn't bad at all.
only problem is, i would like like to adjust background and avi volume at diffrent parts of film.
ie. no music during speaking section, mix of bgm and avi during entrance etc.
    any help appreciated....

Sony Vegas is pretty good, bit more technical. Also, i used to love Nero Vision Express that was with Nero 6 or 7.. can't remember which

It's on Nero 7. Used it many times & always easy to use & understand. Codes can be provided via PM if needed.
