PC connected to LCD TV: picture but no sound!

I have connected my laptop to lcd tv using a dvi to hdmi cable. I have also connected a 3.5mm male to male stereo cable from laptop to tv (to the same ext. as the hdmi cable). However, i have a picture but no sound. If i unplug the stereo cable from the laptop i immeadiately get sound from the laptop, when i plug it back in the sound cuts out, it should then come out from the tv, however its not.

My laptop and tv spec's are:

    Asus M51S
    CPU - Core T5850
    HDD - 320GB
GC - ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470

LCD TV - Sharp Aquos 32 inch
    Full HD

Does anyone have any idea what i can try to get the sound working, any advice would be much appreciated, thanks.

    Regards

Are you extending the screen via software or cloning your screen. Basically only on cloning you will get sound not on extending monitor.

Also have a workaround with your sound setting.

    Hope that helps.

hi ,do you have any white, yellow and red audio inputs on the lcd? if so I would suggest you get a 3.5mm Stereo Jack Plug to Phono Cable. 3.5mm To Phono Cables | Audio Cables | Jack To Phono | 3.5mm to 2x Phono TVCables these cables are the best for getting sound from pc to tv IMO. the yellow is for video but the white and red are for audio.I am not really sure how you would get your existing m to m to work though.

m8 i had the same problem (i thought it's a problem) with my acer. But the funny thing you need to do is for example: you play video through windows media player, you plug in, just video, no sound on tv. Just restart Windows Media Player! Simple, isn't it? if that doesn't help, then try to restart pc while connected to tv.
