how to use tv as monitor through laptop but no sound

hi....hooked up my laptop to tv monitor...used a vga cable from laptop to tv....picture is very good.... but cannot get sound through tv only comes through laptop....i am using a rca lead with 1 headphone jack..... and 2 inputs one red one white at other end....tryed pluging them in at side of tv marked audieo left and right but no sound through tv speakers....am i doing something wrong .....any ideas please

you cant use your vga input at thee same time as phono inputs on tv
the phono inputs and video input red/white/yellow phono plugs will onlyy work on a/v mode

use a male to male 3.5 audio jack.

from the headphone socket of your laptop to a audio input on your tv.
