Mini PC Entertainment Center

Hi,
I am thinking of building a mini pc for my entertainment center. Something small like a cable box so it fits in my cabinet. Is the reliability good on such a small pc? Will this be enough pc for a home theater? I am worried it will run hot in a cabinet?
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Why build your own .....
- Costs a lot of money
- You hope it is stable
- Always the wrong decoders
- pc's make a lot of noise ...
You'd rather take a look at mediatanks or entertainment centers in the living rooms like:

take it from somebody that built a htpc

don't

there are better commercial solutions out there

i ended up selling mine and went to a xbox360/tversity

but i want to try the new western digital tv plus that does netflix

Is it available in the states? Can an operating system be installed?

I think you can buy them in the states to; Google around, there are a lot of brands available.
Operating System is always installed with this kind of devices. Mostly a small Linux O.S. but as a user you don't have to worry about that; The device is as easily controlled as a dvd player.
Note: normally no harddisk is installed in the device; you can install your own harddisk internally, hook up an external source (HD or memorystick) or stream over your network from another PC. Some devices also support youtube;

If it is for that only program I would stick to your pc or
if you use it quite often I would louk out for a cheap
laptop or 10,1 inch notebook (or netbook as they sometime call them).
