Cant decide which monitor, please help!

Hi everyone, i am hoping to find the help i need as i have been thinking for a few days on which monitor to buy and i cant decide,
Basically, i have two which i like, both samsung:
    1- Samsung B2430H 24" LCD Monitor Wide Full HD.. | Ebuyer.com

    2- Samsung SyncMaster B2430L 23.6" Widescreen 1920 x 1080 5MS DVI-D VGA LCD Monitor (LS24PULKF/EN) - dabs.com

They both have DVI connections, but one has HDMI and the other one doesnt, hence the price difference.
But what i would like to know is, do i really need HDMI or will i really use it?
i do watch movies and of course football online ( since all channels have disappeared from sat ...), but what will HDMI do? i have never used this before so i haven't got a clue!
Also, my PC only has standard VGA port.
    What do you suggest please?
    Thanks in advance

Based on the descriptions listed IMO #1, the HDMI is a nice addition for future flexibility to use with a DVD, PS3, some laptops, etc and 3yr warranty (#2 does not mention what the warranty is). HDMI is the key to utilizing 1080p HD video for consumer products and it carries the sound too.

        I would agree with gtpilot.

HDMI offers more flexibility and future proofing. It seems worth it for the extra ?23.
He who laughs last probably didn't get the joke.

but if you didn't have devices with hdmi outputs now, and not planning to get one in near future - than you don't need hdmi in monitor now. so if money no matter - buy one with HDMI, if you short of money and not have hdmi devices - you may buy cheap model without hdmi, and in few years "upgrade" it to bigger and better model with hdmi, if you need one.

Hi, i have bought the one for ?136, 24", without HDMI as i dont need it, it does have DVI so its good.
i am upgrading my PC graphics card to one with DVI and HDMI, so i can connect my monitor to the PC via DVI, and my PC to my TV via HDMI.
              Thanks everyone for your thoughts.
              Regards

I didn't read the specs in detail but if the price difference is 23 pound I'd go for the one with HDMI just to secure future flexibility.
On the other hand .... I am always told "HDMI = DVI + SOUND" so you could consider buying the cheaper one and if you need HDMI in the future you'd buy a HDMI to DVI cable/converter ( HDMI TO DVI CONVERTERS and CABLES - Convert HDMI to DVI or DVI to HDMI with these cables and converters - CONVERTERS & ADAPTERS " and route the sound to the audio connector or separate amp.
Don't know for sure if this would work though so I would buy the one with HDMI ......

                Regards,

                ITR703

                  Short answer, you picked right.

                  Long answer:
HDMI = DVI + Sound + HDCP (encrypted video from Sky / BluRay).

DVI can also have HDCP support but its rare on sets that dont also have HDMI.
The monitor you picked is one of those exceptions - it has HDCP support over DVI.

The only advantage remaining would be carrying sound over HDMI, but since the monitor has no speakers or sound outputs, its completely pointless.

                    Hi, thanks
in fact my initial budget was ?100, then it went up to ?135, i know the screen with HDMI is ?160 which is only ?25 more, but it is ?60 more then my initial budget.
Plus, i use the monitor for computer purposes, and if i want to plug in a HDMI device, i'll do it with my TV, its better that way.
I have to say, this monitor is fantastic, ?135 for 24", comes with 2 years warranty.
I have ordered a graphics card for my PC with DVI and HDMI out, so i'll see if the picture quality is better.
                    Thanks again
