I haven't bothered using the top commercial antiviruses since the 90's, Symantec or McAfee, they're all big old bloatware packages now that try to convince you they're worth the money.
Everyone has different opinions but I use Avast free edition, it can be a bit annoying with the notifications and sounds turned on but can be configured easily to run silently. The commercial AV packages/Internet security bundle a firewall but if you're using a router you've already got one and windows firewall, how much more do you need on a home PC
I use to have Norton internet security(same company) installed on my laptop which includes this anti virus and couple other softwares. It was a painfull experience. Slowed my machine right down. Week later uninstalled and got a free edition of AVG of the internt and it was the best one I used for last couple of year but now I have moved to Avast which is also very good. But if you want full control over your internet activity I would recommend Comodo (free).
I install symantec and cant uninstall , i go in control panel and has tried through installation and removal of programs at me it has turned out nothing, stirs this antivirus.

Hello,
which version have you installed?
Symantec offers an uninstaller for their products (for free).
I use Symantec Norton AntiVirus, at the moment 2010.
It works good, no much cpu priority, no much memory usage and the new virus definitions are quick.
I do not know what version I have is. This antivirus program installed with Star Diagnose. Symantec deletes my files, I know that these files are not virus.
I use symantec corporate for a couple of years now, and it works like a charm. Of course, you need to properly configure it (cut of the bullshit, leave only file scan)
