When you get everything installed try using some software to create an ISO image of the drive. Not sure but R-Drive v4.7 might do what you need. I think it's in the download section.

If you have the ISO saved to DVD then should you be hit again. You just need to install from image.

Take a look at Cobian backup for a free solution or something like Casper Xp if you are prepared to pay.

Use Clonezilla, it is free and very good.
You can make a copy/clone of a partition or a whole drive.

                    ghost.exe

I use ghost.exe to save and restore windows (XP, Vista, and 7), mostly by partition. After saved, you can restore to a partition with different size. My version runs under DOS and was downloaded from a website that collects so call "abandon software", software that are older enough and abandoned by the original software owner. "ghost.exe" is a product of Smantec, by the way. Sorry I don't recall the exact website, which I found through google search.

For backup I always use "driveimage XL"
I always use "hirens boot cd" on a memorystick to do the restore.

Also have a look at "Barts PE" because driveimage is available as a plugin at this bootdisk.

                      Regards,

I recently used Acronis true image to clone my hard drive.

                            Cloning was painless and easy.
