    Laptop with Serial and Parallel

    Hi Guys,

I am looking to buy a new laptop with true serial and parallel ports.
Specs are not important, only strong battery and ports.
All the new laptops i've seen have only USB.

Would anyone know, what make/model of the new laptops i can look at.

    Thanks

    Toni

You may not find a current model with RS232. But there are many types of connectors that may be a solution for you.

Like i said, ideally i am looking for true ports.
I use many serial programmers, and car diagnostic devices. I need at least parallel port and one PCMCIA slot.
Will have a look at the Panasonic.
        Thanks for the input.

might be worth looking for a Dell D610, have all the ports your looking for, easy to fix if it goes wrong because its a Dell, and can pick them up pretty cheap from somewhere like fleabay.

our senior techs at work use them for configuring switchs, cisco gear etc. so might be worth looking out for. the D610 series is caperbale of running windows 7 on 1gb of ram but should have a max mem capacity of around 2gb Ram DDR2.

might be ideal for what you need.

          Good luck

          Street.

Serial port dell D630 line. I would think to get the parallel port you would need a dock on a new laptop.

                Thanks guys,
                Really appreciate all the info.
The Dell is probably the best choice so far.
Will get one of them and a new battery, should be good for the job.
At the moment i am using 3-4 different laptops for the different purposes, one has a serial, one has a parallel .... you get the idea. Just looking to get one that can do everything.

                Cheers

+1 on the Dell D610, myself & quite a few others using these for diagnostics.

Running WindowsXP, with 1Gb ram they are still a respectable general-purpose laptop. Theres always a load of em on sale on fleabay. Pretty cheap to pick up & loads of spares available.

Panasonic toughbook is the best you can find repaird ones on e-bay at good price.
It has real serial rs 232 port and, real parallel i think.
