Windows antivirus - verdict?

I am just about to help someone sort their new laptop out (running genuine W7 64bit).

Was wondering what the general view had been on the windows antivrus programme?

I don't use it myself and I don't need any other recommendations thanks - just wondered what opinions had been on the free windows version.

Not so good as normal antivirus programs, but it is better than nothing. I installed it for my office computer with Vista four month ago and still no viruses when scaned from another PC. of course, no torrents, no ~~~~o downloads at work

Ive used it for some months with no problems I prefer it to AVG exceptions have to be made for a few files it thinks are viruses no worse than other programs Ive used though. Very easy to use so maybe not as comprehensive as some but as I say no problems so far.
