help needed for changing audio clip

    hi guys
i've got a question for you gurus out there

I've an audio clip extracted from a tv show in which there is a mixed song I'd like to extract, the thing is that while the song starts and in the middle there are voices and claps on it and i'd like to remove them, can you suggest any software to help me do that, I've been trying different free and Sony Sound Forge Pro 10.0 but no luck, now downloading Cakewalk to try, would appreciate any suggestions, thanks a lot

      hi dasteph
      thanks for your reply,
unfortunately audacity does a lot of stuff but not what I need it for :'( ,I found also a manual for it but couldn't make it do the trick,

as I said on my first post, I was downloading also cakewalk but no joy, midi file...great but as for Wav or Mp3 (the one i've got) it remain so far a CSI/X-files stuff

thanks for the link, have tested some of these programs but still no useful results, anways after reading lots and lots of pages I believe it cannot be done with "conventional" software as my files wav and mp3 they are 2 channels and to do what I'm trying to, i need an audio file that is multichannel or a software that recode my 2 channels into a multi, so until I get a job in some secret service agency i better forget it
          thanks anyways

I always use Goldwave when I have to do anything with audio.

Sony Sound Forge will do what you want, however it takes a careful hand so as not to destroy the audio you want to keep.

                  Code:

                    @ Cronus
Goldwave doesn't do the trick I need, all these free/shareware sw I've downloaded are all based on the assumption that the voice is recorded somewere in beetwen the left and the right channel so they lower the volume in "that middle" to overwrite with another vocal you like.

                    @manxspud
I've already downloaded Sony Sound Forge and tested it, since is a 500? piece of software I thought it would help, maybe it is just to complicate for me, but I'll keep trying. if you know how to use it, that would be a great help

as I said the file I have is from a TV show where there is this kinda of jingle I need but with claps from the audiance and the voice of the guy presenting the show, I believe I need a sw that analize the audio wav or mp3 in a multi channel so I can exclude the ones I don't need or maybe a magic wand
                    thanks both anyways

The last time i used it was to was to reduce the sound of a baby crying in a wedding video a few years back.

you would be best searching for sound forge tutorials online.

i no longer do much video work so am not up to speed with all the software i used to use.

                        hi manxspud
i've found few tutorials for sound forge, i was able to lower that voice but the claps are still there,
checking around I found a forum for professional advice and a guy had my similar question where he had a ballet recording with voices and claps and more than 1 user told him to forget it, it is not possible
so i think i'll leave it as it is (unfortunately)
thanks all anyways for your suggestions
                        cheers
