It sounds as if your settings are wrong in the control panel of your computor, you can change what happens when you close the lid or press the on/off etc.. I have just had a look on a XP system, go into control panel and click into power options then go into advanced and change them accordingly but remember to press apply and OK to save any changes...

I have a toshiba equium, it's about 5 years old and is fine. You could try a full system restore with recovery media u have. I always do a restore every now and then to keep it running tiptop.

i always had this option in the back of my mind, bit of a pain in the arse to have to do a full system restore but the lappy is only 5 years old so should be plenty of life left in the old girl yet

My Toshiba Equium is over 5 years old and runs great. If you have original disk you could always do a repair using windows recovery console.

Control Panel -> Device Manager -> Select IEEE 1394 Host Bus Controllers and select 1394 Device.

Right Click device -> Select properties -> Power Management Tab

Check the box -> Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power ( Mine was not checked by default)

                      this worked for me

Hi, I've got a Satillite but with Vista on, When i did a full scan and sellected repair sector i found that the scan albut stoped about 86% could'nt do a thing with it, without installing the repair disc but needed the info on it so i installed a new drive a few months later reinstalled the old drive got boot up and its running todate same thing happened to my new drive. the only thing i could put it down to was Kaspersky once the licence run out it did'nt seem to be a problem

if your going to start afresh then you will need to save them on a cd/floppy or another drive.

this site should point you in the right direction How to backup and restore my Internet Favorites / Bookmarks.
