Hi mate.. Ubuntu is an form of Linux Operating software.. If you were to install it on your PC you would delete Windows so you'd loose everything, unless you have a part of your drive partitioned to run Linux..
It's very easy to use once mastered and isn't memory hungry.. my suggestion is if you dont really know much about Linux its not worth installing it on your PC.. it's great for programmers as its open source.. you also have to input Linux code to get things working..
Have a look here for more info on the Linux v Windows debate

You can dual boot on a non partitioned HDD. The installer that comes with Ubuntu will allow you to set up a partition along side the windows installation.
That way you can keep windows installed, keep all your files & have Linux to play with.Canker

An other thing you can do is, you can try Ubuntu without actually installing it on your HDD. Make a live cd or on usb stick and boot it. Ubuntu gives you the option to try it without installing. That way it runs slower, because it runs from cd, but you'll have a chance to have a look, without changing anything.Last edited by Doi07; 10 November, 2010, 13:39.Comment
