How to make a bootable cd

I have a gateway netbook and I want to install WIN XP Pro on it. I have a Win XP cd but the system doesen't have a cd drive. I set the bios to boot from usb cd drive but my cd is not bootable. Is there a way i can get XP pro on this system with out using a usb stick. Any help would be great. I'm not to computer savy so please dumb down your replies Thanks.

have you got an external cd drive that you can attach by usb?

you need to use another PC and take the files from the cd and then burn a new one making it bootable..

Yes I have a usb cd drive, and another computer. Both computers are running XP sp3 home I wanted to upgrade to Xp sp3 pro. I checked the link, a lot of good info but it doesent include sp3, does that matter. I've never tried this before and it is my only system right now and don't want to screw it up.

to keep life simple you can just download sp3 from the net and add the file to the cd, you then just run that file after xp is installed..

Got it sorted, a friend of mine hooked me up with a full version of MagicISO a couple of clicks and it made a bootable cd and worked great. Thanks for the info.
