    DVD or CD

Can I burn a DVD in my CD tray on my PC or do I need something else ?
If I can, could I put it on the TV in the CD tray on the VCR

reading your first post you said you wanted to put them in a cd tray in your vcr, am i right in guessing you have a combination vcr-dvd if so its easier to record straight from tape to dvd in the same machine than capture them to a pc then having to convert the tapes to dvd format.

You need a program like this Free Video to DVD Converter: free video to dvd converting software also the correct lead, and your pc's sound and video card to be compatable...does your VHS recorder have a DVD player as well? Most of this kind if old don't play copy discs,if you search google there are companies that convert VHS for you about a fiver

in the above quote what made me think you had a combo dvd -vhs player was the part about putting it the cd tray on the vcr.

I think the easiest way to explain this is No. You will only be able to create VCD's (Video CD's) with a CD drive. As long as it's a CD writer & not a CD ROM.

You will also need a capture card, something like this. The video player is plugged into the USB stick, then using the supplied software you will be able to transfer the video onto your HDD. From there you can save it on CD as a VCD using Nero or whatever burning program you want to use.

If it's a (writer) and not just rom!(reader).....you can buy a DVD writer for your pc for like ?20, very easy to install. But you would still need the USB capture devise

a rom drive will only read dvd discs you cannot write with it, you will need a dvd rewriter which will read and write to discs they are reasonably cheap to buy especially internal drives which you can get for between 15-20 pounds, external drives will cost more.

its a way of transferring the video from your vcr to your pc in order to then write it to a dvd or a vcd.

I managed to capture a holiday film with a video grabber onto a USB stick, but when I put the dongle into a usb port on the pc,
Media player came up but would not show the film, what am I doing wrong ??
