    XP Activation Key

    Hi,
    Can anyone help me?
    My PC has died on me, I've installed a new hard drive and want to reinstall XP, got disk but I've lost the activation key.
    Does anyone know where I can get it from.

      Usually activation key are glued on the cover or you can go back to the place you bought your pc they may have your activation key in file, alternatively if all else fail you will have to ask some one politely for a file called WGA Killer or you can use Google for help.

      Tools owned: Hammer, Chisel, Crowbar, Punch, Chainsaw, Cutter and Brain!!!

          If the pc/laptop was bought from a shop like pc world, they instal key is usually on the bottom of laptop side of pc

              Thats all fine and well but there is always some twating employee who sticks the sticker on side at the front and another twating customer that bought it and didn't write the key down then didn't notice the toddler picking the sticker off and only leaving the last four digits until a clean install was required. dohhhhhhhhhhh

                      can get the key off the xp cd
                      How-To: Find Windows XP Product Key from the Windows XP CD:
                      1) Insert Windows XP cd into a working computer.
                      2) Exit the Autorun introduction.
                      3) Open My Computer
                      4) Right Click on the Windows XP cd-rom drive and select explore.
                      5) Open the USWXP32P_ZX folder. (It may be as a hidden folder. If you cannot locate the folder, you may also search for unattend.txt and mark "Search Hidden Files")
                      6) Open the sysprep folder.
                      7) Open unattend.txt
                      Your CD's product key is contained within the unattend.txt file.

                                  on my install disc, UNATTEND.TXT is in the i386 directory and is not hidden, productkey is at the end of the file
                                  That key may not work as I believe it is only an example (where you would put your own key)
                                  Both discs I looked at the keys are not the same as I used to do the install. also both keys are all over the internet
