Adding a new HDD

Hello,
Is it possible to have more than on HDD on a PC?

Basically I'm running out of space, and don't fancy upgrading as I'll lose everything. I have an external HDD, but only like using them for backup as installing software on them causes everything to run mega slow.

yes mate you can.. you need to find out what type of connection your PC uses, if its newish its more than likely a SATS connection, so you just need to buy a new HDD and a SATA cable.. open up your PC and follow the cables that coonect to the exsiting HDD, follow the cable that goes to the mainboard, where it plugs in it will say whther it is SATA etc and there should also be a spare socket or two to enable you to add another device. You do need to make sure you have room inside you PC case to add a new disk though, while you have it open have a look for an spot near the existing HDD or DVD drive, you can buy mounting brakets for pennies from the bay of E.

Had a look yesterday when I was cleaning it out, and theres like 3 shelves below the existing HDD, so plenty of room

I'll open it up again and see what its running. Thanks

or buy a usb one and put all the files ya might want to carry from one place tp another on it like photos and films

The top image is an IDE drive, this will need the jumper setting correctly for 'slave' & connecting to the block halfway along the IDE cable.

The lower image is a SATA drive. This has no jumper & just plugs into the next available port.

I have previously used USB external HDD but I dropped and lost all the data now I usually use the ghost programme to update my hard drive every year, that way even your new hard drive packs up you have the original one with all your files in it.
