    Memory stick problem

    Hi

This is probably going to be something really stupid that I'm either doing or not doing wrong.

When I use a usb memory stick ( I've got various types / sizes ) to copy music or pictures/photos I end up with - pictures with colours changed or bits missing , music that dissapears or folders that don't have what they're supposed to have / empty and / or duplicate other folders.

    Anyone help please , Adam

1st step. Make sure you're using the same software on all machines. Had a similar problem with avi files between the lappy & my PC. VLC installed on both now, no more problems.

2nd step. Format the sticks to Fat32 before you use them again.

Not sure after that. Let us know how you get on.

      Hi

We've got XP on both PC and laptop and I formated to fat32 on all of the memory sticks as soon as I got them.

Just that for some reason if I copy and paste alot of either music mp3 files or pics I can loose some or get corrupted files.

How long have you had them &, more importantly, where did you get them from.

Flash drives from china are notorious for being ripoffs. 1GB cards being flashed to show 8GB or more. This will give you all the problems you are suffering.

Transfer files in 500MB blocks & check that they work ok. You should come to a level where files are corrupted or won't copy. This will be the true size of the card.

          Hi

There various ages and some have come off ebay and some from companies , I would say it's the larger ones that tend to play up.

I'll try that and see how it goes.

          Thanks , Adam
