Web Developing

I am thinking to start over again with web design. I was using HTML code few years ago but since then I lost my interest. Is there anybody who will give me some guidance. PHP or new HTML5? Java? Some software to use and some e-books maybe?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
