What system are you running (i.e. Windows XP) and how old is the PC?

    Is the monitor ok?

Check that all the external cables are properly inserted (keyboard, mouse etc).

Open the tower and check the connections from the PSU to the various disk drives.
Also check the connections from the hard drive to the mother board. (at the same time you might want to change the battery on the mother board).

If that makes no difference try booting from the installation CD for the windows system you are using.

Could be that your hard drive has let go. It would still make a noise but may not be able to read.

Have a look at this for a few more ideas

sounds like the cpu or memory had gone down take out memory and reinsert it try again if that dont work remove the bios battery and power cabless for 20mins try again if that dont work then your up shit creek make sure cpu fan is working also look into the graphics card but sound like a new processor is needed

If it has a graphics card then try taking it out and putting it back in. A few times this has happened to me, were the monitor would go funny when booting or not come on. And after a quick gpu out and in again it was fine for another while.

Its worth a try anyway, if you haven't done it yet

it just means there is some power going into the motherboard.
this is just a thought but you posted that when you switched on your pc that the light on your pc flashed this could be down to a failing psu, if you have a spare psu you could try that in order to find out if your existing one is ok.

what about popping the battery out off the MB and reseting the bios ??

even popout the battery and replace it with a shiny new 1

must be out for atleast 30 seconds

if everything is going correct I think you must put of every components in your motherboard...clean it first and after that assembly all again....I think it just stressed
