    Can anyone help?

I have a laptop with hdmi output and I would like to connect it to an old tv with only an RCA input (no s-video) so i can watch stuff I stream over the web on my telly. My laptop has tv out facility. I have seen hdmi to vga cables online and would like to know if this is possible before I buy one and would the picture quality be ok if I changed the display settings on the laptop to suit the tv?

Are convertors expensive? Is there another way to do it or do I bite the bullet and buy a new tv?

I'm saving nearly that by not having sky so would be willing to pay that if i was assured of getting a decent picture. I'm quite happy with the picture I get on the tv just now. And the streaming/flash channels on the laptop are really good quality.
