    cat5 advice needed!!!! ASAP

    hey lads & ladies

my parents have broadband in there house which is 150metres from my house, i have run a standard cat5e cable from my parents router to my house to receive internet, however it says identifying network and then drops out using my laptop...

i have read after installing cable cat5 can only support 100m???

my question is what do i need to extend the range on the cat5???

    thanks in advance....

Cat5 will only run 100m if that most are less due to the wires talking to each other hence why they are twisted pairs to reduce the crosstalk (Crosstalk is the "bleeding" of signals from one pair in a cable onto another pair through induction the wires need not make contact because signals are transferred magnetically. Crosstalk is an unwanted effect that can cause slow data transfer, or completely inhibit the transfer of data signals. Crosstalk is minimized by the twisting of the pairs in the cable.)you'll need to insert a booster or another router in the line say at 75m halfway to give you another run of 100m.

Have you looked into a high gain wifi unit with directional antennas?
