avast is a brill free av, and malwarebytes is also brill, always update malwarebytes befor using it ( malwarebytes is a stand alone av and only runs when you want it to, dosent run in the background ), also be careful with limewire or anything similar you can pick viruses up very easy with them, dont use limewire or similar until you have a resident av installed and running in the background.

Yes m8 youcan transfer anything you want on USB drive, plug in on comp with the music on,the comp will find the USB stick and name it "removable disc" click start on task bar bottom left corner on screen, then click my computer ,the removable disk ie:USB .will be there with your other drives c ect click to open and drop any files into here.

Your songs will be in a shared folder in downloads/limewire library select all files and copy or drag onto removable disk(USB).. When finished be sure to right click in USB and click eject then you can take out USB .then take where you want and copy into anywhere on other comp.and when done be sure to eject again

yes the 3 anti-virus mentioned above were the 3 i was considering after reading another post with lots of replies. i'll give the usb stick a try today and get my music off limewire which i rarely use.
any more good advice is more than welcome.
              thank you all.

I'd be surprised if Limewire still works, it was shut down over a month ago.

Malwarebytes will give active protection if you have a serial number for it. You can either buy one or install an older version & find a serial on-line.

limewire could be the source of the malware/virus problem there is a lot of them on there notice the differences of the files and sometimes the size as well. most are not the size of a music file or video file.

im with the other peeps youll need to secure your laptop and maybe your network.

                    Laptop:
Get Latest Windows Updates to close any exploits and vulnerabilities

                    (Router)
make sure your ports are stealth.
Unsure if they are? (use IE and have Java)
Free Virus Scan - Free Antivirus Software | Norton Security Scan
also make sure the Security is fully setup.
                    (nat firewall encyption mac's etc)
its important to have 2 firewalls
                    Hardware - Router
                    Software - IDS

                    IDS - Intruder Detection System
These software are packed to deal with numerous kinds of threats and even online threats like when you surf it will protect you.

                    Softwares like:
                    Nod
                    kaspersky Internet Security 2011
                    AVG
Norton 360 - Takes more cpu than most

there are also other kinds of software that can be used with them

                    SpyBlaster

This Adds Addresses to the Hosts File to Protect the computer to protect you and keep you from entering them sites. this protects Internet Explorer Mozilla Firefox and other Browsers.

SpywareBlaster | Prevent spyware and malware. Free download.

                    SpyBot SD (Anti Spyware)

This Software is designed for scanning for spyware and also like SpyBlaster it can Immunize the Computer by Adding addresses to the Hosts Files

                    The home of Spybot-S&D!

                    MalwareBytes (Anti Malware)

This a great tool for detecting malicious malware on your computer/laptop has plenty scanning features and realtime monitoring as well (only in the pro version though)

                    Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware: Malwarebytes

                    Trojan Remover (Anti Trojan)

Most Trojans are picked up by any AV/IDS software nowadays but there is also software designed just for trojans

Depends on if you want to spend money or not.

Kaspersky internet security suite is the package i would get, is about ?25 and can be used on 3 computers legally.

For free you could try avast, avg and some others
Firewalls you could use zonealarm free, comodo or wndows own firewall.

I would download crap cleaner, sypbot search and destroy and malwarebytes.

If limewire then thats a good thing if it hasnt stop using it as it is riddled with stuff

Some other free stuff is imgburn

Make sure they are not where your virus came from in the first place.. Especially limewire stuff. Music tracks can be had all over. Just format the bloody thing.
