    optical cable ?

hi i have a new tv which i have just found out there is no phono speaker output on it which i have been told most tvs are like this now for some stupid reason but i what to plug my subwoofer in but after a long discussion the only way is an optical cable in to one
    AU-D3 Coaxial/Optical to Left/Right Stereo Audio: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

but my question is i still want my tv speakers to work with my sub but it if i plug this optical cable in to the tv does this disable my tv speakers ?

You've lost me. what do you want? normally a phono INPUT, not output... You want to output a signal from your freeview (in your telly) to a subwoofer? for the extra base?

I am slightly lost, but explain more

Ahh, wouldnt think it will disable the speakers, with a headphone there is a physical switch when you plug them in.
You can buy an optical cable from poundland you know not sure how much .
your sub has optical in?? or would you go thru an amp first?

thanks for that i will go down today for one to try . the sub has its own amp and there is only phono lead plugs on the back of it so if the optical cable does not disable my tv speaker (fingers crossed) i wll buy one of these

for the sub as i just want my tv speakers and a active sub to work together

Does the T.V have a spare SCART? Easiest way would be to use one of these

if it does. I used one for years until I finally upgraded my AV Amp.

Optical connector on TV does not always passthrough audio from a HDMI input. I that early Samsung and Sony TV did not do this. LG does pass through but not DTS (not an issue for you) and I believe panasonic pass through as well. You might need to connect the optical cable to the source.

As somebody else mentioned you can get a cable for a quid so its not going to cost much to find out if it works.

Another option would be a second hand AV amp which you can output the audio to and drive your sub from there.

Would be an INPUT, not an output tho mate. So doubt very much you'd get anything out.
