HELP LG 42" and phillips hts3520 surround problem.

Just purchased a new tv today, trouble is my surround sound wont work with it. my surround doesnt have optical output like the tv. the only way i can get it to work is pluggin red, white and yellow aux lead straight into my sky box then back into ma dvd player. but then wen i want to watch a dvd have to unplug everything and its quite annoyin, i thought id be able to just plug the aux leads directly from ma dvd surround player into the tv and it would just play everythin that was on ma tv but it doesnt. Dont know if need change any settings or anything. tv model is 42le4500. Any help would be much appreciated.

hdmi is not set to on,you may need to activate it in settings so it knows what to use, some high end receivers give the option of hdmi, scart etc and need to be assigned.

on tv optical out to INPUT optical in on surround system.
