I am after a Media Centre

got ?140 max

i was looking at the WD TV live hub, with 1tb HDD for ?150

its to play mostly 3D stuff on my TV, but other stuff too, mp3, divx, mkv, and your normal stuff.

what do you guys recommend, or , or what about building one ( what would i need ) ?

i use popcorn hour and stream from my nas plays eveything alot of help on their forum to help set it up

i got the wdtv live its the dogs, plays just about any video formats ya can chuck at it, its networked so get stuff from the internet piped down to it, its piece of pish to set up, easy to stream from pooter to it, what ive read about the wdtv live hub its even better than the wdtv live---> The WD TV Live Community –

Nice piece of kit and once you have it set up to your liking you can't go wrong for the price.

I use WDTV MSG for setting up all my movie and TV sheets and it is an eye grabber when the mates come round for a few beers. A few of them now have them and keep them in their men only rooms

Xtreamer sidewinder 2 has the new firmware 3, its probably a bit buggy atm but they will sort it out, for 99 euros its a good deal.........BEWARE though, there has been a lot complaining about import taxes, I dont know if its been sorted or not so thought I would mention it.

I have a wdtv, an XT 1 and XT Pro, the pro does everything I need and has 2x 2tb drive bays. A smashing piece of kit.

Maybe an apple tv should also be considered..........jailbroken of course.

Cheers satsmo, if you are looking a media center then XT's are good, of course they have issues like every other product ever but I can honestly say they have never failed to play any file I have thrown at them. The sidewinders have vents on them so NO fan (silence is golden), I bought the side vents for my XT 1 and it was a big difference.

I think the prodigy will be very good, but its supposed to be released very soon so may be worth a wait for reviews.

The XT Ultra is an htpc that runs xbmc etc....incase you wanted more than a media centre.

If I was buying one now...it would be sidewinder2 BUT...as I said, check out import duties, some people got stung big.

have a look at the new Dune TV101 and 301 m8, i also have the XT 1 and XT Pro, but dont think i would buy again the ver 3 firmware has been coming out for 2 years now and still nothing been put back again there fouum is like a nazi forum you say any thing about the xtreamer products and your gone, keeping my eye on the Dune 301 looking like the dogs balls when it comes out, alot of info on AV forums about it

You wont be unhappy with a WDTV Live, they just work so well, intuitive menu system makes 'em easy to use, they require very little faffing about to get them doing what you want, and they're well supported with frequent system updates.. They really are very good.

at first i thought this was the media centre for me until i read that page.

still undecided...

i looked at the dune also and it looks the dogs, but only seem to post from America, and again a new product

again @ Jaffa , the import duties are only about ?6-?7 , i just got stung for a portable dvd player from China. Still worth paying though, a lot cheaper.

As much as a good forum MPC club is....the do have a bee in their bonnet about XT products, has gone on a long time.

Real Prodigy reviews will only tell when it is out in the wild, which according to XT forum...is no later than 15th October (but they are prone to miss dates).

I am not taking XT side of things, just interested in their products cos the ones I already have are really good.

IF Prodigy does what it says on the tin, then it will be my next purchase but I am NOT going to pre order.

btw...they may have solved the import duties and are working to try and get different regional companies for delivery to Europe and US (which will be good news)

If I hear any other reports I will call back and let you know, its only a couple more weeks so may be worth a wait.

m8 the 101 will be shipped in the uk end of this week and the 301 will be out in the uk 6 weeks time , again a new product yes but going by all there other players i would say this will be as good, i hope

I am prepared to wait a few weeks rather than jump in the deep end, some great media centre reviews here and i do like the look of the Xtreme Prodigy and the dune boxes.
cant wait till i finally get one, i sold my old Emtec one, now have no media centre.
