Does anybody know of a paticular Bluray player that could offer me the same capabilities of playing my vast media library and 1080p mkv collection as my WDTV Live does? Could I effectively replace my WDTV Live with a certain Bluray player? A bluray player that supports all movie file formats and can play files from USB and a sharing PC/NAS on the network? Do they exhist?
BluRay Player vs WDTV Live?

Interesting question. I've checked out a few and none of them seem to support as many formats as my WDTV live.
I'd certainly be interested if there were any out there. Anything to reduce the number of boxes under the television. He who laughs last probably didn't get the joke.

Yes, the Topic is Bluray Player that can replace WDTV Live player, not whats the best media player.. And yes, its to try and reduce the number of boxes under TV... Ah well, Ive gone in anyway and ordered a Panasonic DMP-BD75EB, what Ive read it seems to cope with MKV's just fine so, I'll give it a go when it gets here..Comment

would stay will clear of the xtremer muppets, i have the mk1 and the pro they work well for what they are but the support is f**king crap its been 2 years now and all mk1 player owers where told the will be a v3 firmware still no joy with that and it wont happen also the pro was there so called flag ship player and now this will not get the v3 firmware (f**king joke) to get any up date on this firmware you will have to go buy a new prodigy and then if they feel like it stop the support for that and bring out a new player and as for the Sidewinder 2 that was a door stop after 4 mths .
thing you need to ask you self is what do you wont from your media player and work from there
Xtreamer
2 years on and now the v3 firmware is not coming
Older products:
Here comes the hard part. The part of this long thread that we kept last in order to make things more clear after the long part which was mainly not relevant to you.
The Xtreamer Pro, due to the very high demand is still alive and kicking. We recently upgraded it with Airplay for Youtube support.
In many aspects it is probably our best product ever. The forum and the Web is full of applause for its value for money.
We will still offer it and on a better price. Users will be able to enjoy it for 99 Euro and they will get a free antenna. The original price was reduced from 149. So you are getting a 74 Euro reduction for this supertanker media player.
This product special edition for a limited quantity is just to express our view. In many aspects this is our best firmware as yet. In many aspects it is our most solid product in DMP market.
We aim to continue support it in the future. We hope the Xtreamering community will allow you to enjoy more diverse projects.
The FW 3 implementation for this product, as well as for any other first generation products based on 1283 is so far does not look promising.
We cannot launch it, since once upgraded your devices and saw how bad / slow it performs you would not be able change your mind and revert back to firmware 2.7.*.
We cannot take this risk nor this was what we intended and why our entire RD teams worked for months and months.
The situation for new SDK or newer firmware for this product doesn?t look promising.
Your devices now are perfectly capable of playing HD files with 16ref MKV and even DTS HD and TrueHD in 7.1 channels. It supports Xtreamering portal and in many aspects it offers a modern yet elegant solution if you are not after 3D and Android.
We do feel sorry to be in a position that our aim to upgrade this range of devices to the next generation firmware failed short due to many reason beyond our power.
Should the situation change we will update. We still did not give up.
For Sidewinder 2 based on 1185 platform we will stop selling this item on our systems once Sidewinder 3 is out. We will stop developing its platform as well. We cannot keep this product alive as RTL abandoned this platform and focuses on their new 1186.
Any Customer who want to upgrade his Xtreamer Sidewinder 2 to any of our other newer models is asked to contact us by mail and we will issue him a special 30% voucher to be used in our shops once new order will be made.please press the little red THANKS tab
if I helped
if not press the green tab to tell me to f**Koff

Have had numerous media players in the past
Have to fully agree about XTreamer products.
Would not touch one with a barge pole.
Now have a couple of Acer Revo 3700's Both dual boot W7 & XBMC LIVE.
I am sure you can hang an External BR drive off it but haven't tried it myself.
My Panasonic BDP-110 is used for BR & 3D BR
I also have a jailbroken ATV2 running XBMC in the bedroom.Comment
