The problem I have is that When I stream avi files from my pc to bravia smart tv most of them work no problem some (usually blue ray rips coded with xvid) give me a black screen with playback not available message, but tonight this one played no problem until about 20mins from the end then gave me the playback not available screen. Does the bravia have the same sort of protection as ps3 and can i get around it. I am assuming it is not windows media player as this is just being used as a library and not for codecs. connection to router is wired by the way and not wifi. I may be wrong about wmp and should i try vlc. Just to add streaming to the xbox via wifi with the same films gives no errors and play fine.

Try using ps3mediaserver as it transcodes everything on the fly I've seen it stream to Samsung tv's and played eveything thrown at it. I use it with a PS3 and never had any problems at all, from crappy 500mb avi's to full res full quality 45gb M2TS blu-ray files. It also keeps the resolution and surroundsound in MKV files, and works with subtitles embedded or not.

Cheers captin, I was thinking along the same lines as this the way past cinevea or whatever it is on ps3 if I'm not mistaken. It's just very strange that it is really random. Some xvid files play and some don't, same codec has been used same audio codec even a similar speed data transfer rate, and to stop playing halfway through a file is just bizarre. I will give the ps3 media server a go and get back to youComment

Looks like the old pc has finally been caught out. It seems that it isn't powerful enough to encode on the fly. It is p4 dual core but one of the first and only 1gb of ram running xp so it looks a though it is easier to convert the one or two films that are causing a problem to see if that works until sony update the firmware with more codecs. I'm not stuck as I can use smb shares to stream wirelessly from pc to wii which gives me a 480i outputComment

Alright lads I can now confirm that it was not a codec problem but the sony bravia is affected by cinevea in the same way a ps3 is but the good news is the new version of ps3 media server 1.50.1 solves the the problem as it doesn't seem to be as much of a resource hog as the old version...even my old pc can encode on the fly with it....resultComment

Hi HappyHighlander, can I ask you a couple of questions please? I have a sony tv connected to my router (wired connection) and a laptop wired connected to the same router. Tv can connect to the internet with no problem but I am not able to stream from my computer to the tv or my computer can't see the tv. Is there any software available to help me doing this? Second I was playing a divx film from a usb pen drive and about 30min to the end gave me the same merror message that you had, very odd because played tons of other dvix without problems. Almost certainly cinevea protection and as far as setting up the tv to stream from pc you either setup a shared folder in windows media (which won't play cinevea) or setup a shared folder in the program from gmb's link. Not sure how to do that yet as I haven't downloaded it it yet. The other option to get round the protection is to use the ps3 media server I mentioned sering up a shared folder on it and use the transpose option for protected mediaComment

Just had a read around the serviio forum and it is clearly stated that serviio does not bypass cinavia. Clearly stated in the open forum anyway and reading between the lines no-one will give up any info about installing a profile that will block the watermark in the audio track. I may have a play aorund and convert an effected file to dvd and see if the bravia still blocks it. I'll keep you posted but at this time it looks like ps3media server is the way to go..Comment

Little bit more info for all concerned. By using convertx 4 and setting audio to change dts to ac3 the bravia will play the dvd through a panny upscaling dvd player using hdmi so appears to have removed the digital watermark from the audio track....Comment

i might be wrong its just a thought try playing your video,s with vcl player as it can play almost any video format
