Getting a new HD TV :) Yey!

    Heyup chaps! (and chapettes!)

Soooo, I am going to get a new TV. It has been decided... even the missus agrees! (or should I say that I have been wanting one for ages, but wasn't 'allowed'! but now my fair lady also wants a new tele, so its okay now! hahaha).

Anyway, I am a overwhelmed with the choices to be honest!

A few specific questions... I checked here: HD Coverage Checker | Accurately Check By Postcode Your HD Coverage and it says I can get freeview HD, and also both Virgin & Sky.. Wooo hooo!

So, first off, would Sky or Virgin be the best option for HD sports? (I am guessing that freeview HD is a bit useless, coz that site seems to say it only has 4 HD channels )

Secondly, I wondered if you guys could recommend a good 42" flat screen? I'm a bit confused by the whole Plasma vs LED cs LCD decision, and thought it might be good to get a 'real' recommendation from a 'real' person... I don't really trust reviews on retail sites!

So, sorry again for all the questions... anyone got any advice?

      Yup, very gracious!

Well, we are splitting the cost, so it's fair enuf really I guess.

I wondered about plasma - someone else told me it is better, but couldn't say in what way, or why! - Thanks for explaining about the contrast and colour, it helps.

I am interesting mainly for sports - so want a nice, crisp image, with no jerky movements, so maybe plasma is best?

      Thanks for the tips

I am just trying to get folks opinions, then will be heading down the shops - I always like to try to find a bit out about things first, as I find I don't risk getting caught out by the sales guys B$ then, and avoid just buying the one they make most profit on

I had a plasma and hated it, it was like sitting in front of a mirror in my room, when there was something black in the picture it reflected my room into the screen and I ended looking at everything in my room, I gave my daughter the plasma tv and brought a led and can only see the tv screen picture now.

                Hi

Depending on budget Id say samsung, gr8 tv led or lcd. Plasma`s tend to have more glare and reflects almost everything. Not sure but wasnt plasmas more for gamers pr something.

I myself have got lg plasma 50" its a very good tv but suffers from reflection problems as has been said earlier. Model Ive got doesnt have lan connection and then all smart tvs came out a few weeks later which when my son bought his samsung with lan connection I so wished I had waited.

So have a good look round before you decide making sure its right for you as you aint gonna be buying another for some time after.

                Regards

Hmmm - now i am confused, as it has been said before by someone that Plasma's were the better option!

I think I might go to a few stores, and ask to see the difference (but I will leave my wallet behind! I don't trust myself with those hard-sell types in the shops!).
