    sony bravia HDD

    Hi all
was wondering if anyone can help with this

when I connect my HDD(formatted to exfat) to my TV and try registering on my sony bravia I get the message "The HDD connected with USB port for recording was not able to be recognized. Please confirm the connection".

Any ideas or help to make my HDD work with my sony will be much appreciated

It can only record to one of the usb ports mate, can't remember of hand which one it is but at a guess it's the one you don't have hdd plugged into plus the fact the bravia like almost every other tv can only recognise fat32 so will not be able to record to exfat

Plugged into correct port. The i manual say exfat is ok but I just tried fat32 just in case and that doesn't work either.
      Thanks for the help :-)
      Any more suggestions :-(

Is it usb powered or mains powered. I have a bravia cx523 and it records to you usb stick and mains powered but haven't tried it with usb powered. Try a memory stick in it, it may be that if it is usb powered or an eco (wd green) hdd it is not spinning up fast enough to be recognised.

          hi pal
          no its mains powered
dont know if it makes a difference but it is a HDD from a Sky plus box placed into an enclosure
works on pc and laptop just fine

dont have a memory stick big enough to try as it needs to be at least 32gb and i only have a 4gb, I have just ordered a 32gb stick so if all else fails i'll try that when it arrives

          thanks for the suggestions

The hdd shouldn't matter I use an old pc one in a caddy, I didn't think the size mattered either a 4 gb stick will get you about an hour or just over for sd recording or 30 mins of hd. Does it play files ok using the usb port.

well ive just tried the HDD in the read only USB slot and it works fine.
All i neednow is for it to work in the record slot, its really getting on my nerves now.

Please feel free to make any relevant suggestions to make it work.

Many thanks to those who have tried and those who (hopefully) will try ;-)

Did you try getting it to read from the record port to rule out a faulty port (it can read and write to that port)

No pal doesn't even register in the other port. But as others seem to have the same problem can't see it being the port but if I don't sort it I may just make the call on a warranty job. :-)

It's sounding like a warranty job mate, my bravia reads from all usb ports

spoken to customer support and they have told me that my HDD is incompatable and they only recommend Western Digital HDD
and also my 32GB memory stick wont work because it is not a HDD
told them that it should be stated that only WD will work and the guy on the other end said he will pass on my feedback (wont hold my breath)

hope this is of use to somebody

That's a crock of shit m8. My bravia will read an iomega hdd that has 3 partitions on it fat 32 being partition 1 it also reads an old hdd I pulled from a pc and put in a caddy, I'm just going to try a 16 gb pretec memory stick, I'll give you a shout with the results.

Edit: I have now tried the above mentioned memory stick and a 4gb pny one I got for pennies and both work reading from and recording to. Reading and recording was all done with sticks and hdd in the recording port. Just for good measure I put a 2gb micro sd card in a reader and could play avi files from that as well, so there is definitely a problem with the port on yours. You are welcome to send them a copy of this post and if that fails refer them to meaty. By the way what model of bravia is it. I'm using a cx523
