    Lg DVD HDD recorder

Hi All, I have here a Lg RH266 DVD HDD recorder, its just packed up, when you switch it on the "hello" message hello message keeps scrolling across the display and you can hear the h\drive trying to spin up every 5 mins, Ive tried a good HD in it and it does the same. Looks like its a bin job, anyone got any recommendations for a replacement, Ive read a few reviews on the newer LG's and there not good

    Thanks

LG are not a good brand... Goldstar products never were...

Panasonic is a quality brand in AV equipment..

                  THE TRUTH
                  The Hillsborough Independent Panel. 12/09/12

Today's report is black and white. The Liverpool fans were not the cause of the disaster.
The panel has quite simply found 'no evidence' in support of allegations of 'exceptional levels of drunkenness, ticketlessness or violence among Liverpool fans' and 'no evidence that fans had conspired to arrive late at the stadium' and 'no evidence that they stole from the dead and dying'.

I had a simular issue with a Philips DVDR3455, it would seem the firmware or part of it is on the hard drive, If it cant read the drive it does'nt know what to do.
I had another working unit (same model) and cloned the drive in a pc. when I installed the hard drive back into the dvd unit it worked just fine. The drive had been corrupted somehow and caused the unit not to work, the drive was still fine.

                      Resetting the recorder
If you observe any of the following symptoms...
The unit is plugged in, but the power will not turn
                      on or off.

The front panel display is not working.

The recorder is not operating normally.

...you can reset the recorder as follows:
Press and hold the POWER button for at least five
seconds. This will force the unit to power off then
                      turn the unit back on.

Unplug the power cord, wait at least five seconds,

and then plug it in again.

I've done all the resetting a hundred times but still the same, I'll try and clone the hard drive with pc but I think I'm going to need some software to do this as windows will only see it in disk management as a disk that is offline that needs formatting

Whe I said I cloned the drive I used a dos based tool and cloned the drive from a working dvd recorder (same make and model) not the pc's drive. hope this clears that up.
