Cat 5 to HDMI issue

I have recently been involved in a new home install and trying to use Cat5 to HDMI extenders, the problem now is i am having pixelation or snowy pictures on 1 to 1 source, i now am aware that we should have used cat 5e, does anyone know of an extender for cat 5 unshielded?
Or will a powered Cat 5 extender do?

If the cabling cant handle the speed & signal balance then you're stuffed.. New cabling required..

What you could do is drop the signal down, so instead of 1080p try 1080i, if still no good try 720p, if still no good try 576i.... But ultimately you'll probably have to install better cabling...

Cat5 can Handle 1080i/p no problem it may be rated at just 100mbps but even Blu ray maxes out at around 45mbps including audio, the difference between 1080i/p is interlaced and progressive so if it cant handle 'p' it wont handle 'i' either.

The powered HDMI extenders are a lot better imho, and just to put your mind at rest i stream Blu Ray over cat 5 no problem at around 20m so i know its OK.

Make sure your cat5 connectors are wired correctly, I've seen them wired wrong and they don't work worth a dam.
use either 568a or 568b both are acceptable

Well after ~~~~in about with Baluns and HDMI sources i have found a couple of issues.

No 1. I used click modular RJ45 insert part number MM480WH, these are Cat5e compatible, but do not work in tandem with non powered baluns.

No 2. By removing the Click insert and terminating standard RJ45 connection i was able to get a connection/picture.

No 3. My source to test was Sky HD box with no issues, when i tested a Technomate 5402HD output i encountered Signal dropout.

So to put everything into perspective if i was doing an install again i would use Cat 6 with RJ 45 to RJ45 T568B termination only.

Just an update on using HDMI baluns over Cat 5, i was able to finally use powered 5v dc Balun's to view a 1080i signal.
For anyone that is interested unpowered Baluns over a short distance< 5 meters does work, but when you send over a longer distance or introduce radius bends you will require powered HDMI baluns.
Also just a quick one on HDMi cabling, if you experience snowy pixelation use HDMI with ferrite to reduce EMI.
