laptop to tv problem

hello everyone......not sure if any 1 can help me but here goes
im trying to play hd movies ive downloaded from my laptop and useing my laptop on my hd tv
my laptop has a hdmi socket it is an advent pc
my tv has a dvi socket on it ..its a 32 inch phillips
i got a hdmi to dvi lead plugged it all in and started playing the hd movie i downloaded and nothing happened...

am i doing anything wrong...i can see the movie play8ing o the laptop screen....but the tv is just blank

can any 1 help me?????

you will need to enable your secondary display

also you will need to set up speakers or get a cable to go from the laptop (if it has optical use that) to your surround sound system as dvi doesnt carry sound

Try pressing Function F7 or F8 (depends on your laptop) to switch between all the multi screen modes, either on both at the same time or just on external screen, don't forget to change the option for closing the lid to "do nothing" if you want the laptop lid down while you use the external display.
