Hi guys, my son just broke my samsung plasma so am looking to replace it, been looking at currys website they have a panasonic led 50" at ?529 which was around what I wanted to pay, 50" plasma is around the same price both with freeview hd, which is the best to go for plasma or led.

Probably should be asked in home entertainment and media section. Plasma much better for sharper motion details. The led represents much more economical tv as uses far less power and doesn't heat the way plasma does. Panasonic are going to stop development of plasma tv's as well.

Plasma's for me provide a better image, but as DOUGALMCD states, LCD's are more energy efficient. But then you have the LED's which are meant to be better than LCD's in regards to their energy rating. But I am a bit disappointed about Panasonic stopping development of Plasma's. Their top 3 models are rated very highly and many professional reviews have stated that Panasonic's very best models easily outperform all others across all standards. I heard a while back that they even purchased the technology made by Pioneer, who made the very best tv to date (KURO).

led is the backlight source for lcd tv's vs ccfl lamps, no one I know of makes a consumer led tv. The only true led displays are used for out door signs and stadium displays that I know of.
Both Plasma and LCD have advantages and disadvantages, Here is some info LCD vs Plasma: Which is Better? | Digital Trends

        I have both
