I had a 46" Sony Bravia LCD and it was a terrible picture. Managed to send it back after a week.

Now have a 42" Viera and i really like it, great picture and sound.

I would consider an LCD upto 37"

I much prefer Plasma over Lcd, I have owned plasma's for the last 10 years and not even had a dead pixel.
My current plasma is the Pioneer Kuro PDP-LX5090 this really is something else and the picture quality is truely amazing.
My Mother brought a Sony Bravia LCD recently and i was impressed with the picture quality, but it's not in the same league as the Kuro.

To be fair its not in the same price range either

I see the EU wants to ban plasmas now because of the silly amounts of electricity they use almost 2.5 times the amount a LCD/CRT uses. First the light bulbs now the plasmas

I recently got an LCD after trying to figure out the difference in quality between LCD and Plasma. I got an LCD because of price, all round performance and low power consumption. Its also got a silly function which changes the brightness of the screen when in a dark room.

StaminaStan is right in his diatribe hopefully he has dispelled some of the rubbish that gets banded around Above 37" there are some greatr Plasmas and LCD's.....go to a good TV shop and have a look at the new LCD Panasonic, Philips, Sony and LG screens, they are very good. I am going for Plasma in the form of a Pioneer Kuro...living black. Other Plasma model represent extremely good value.

Exactly dctyper, I am agree with your point. As I am using LCD Phillips 32 inches. It wonderful and its picture quality is too good.

why not google plasma vs. lcd and get the true technical pros and cons between the 2. then u can decide for urself based on fact alone. lots of good points in this thread, but as well lots of bs.JMO. cheers

Whatever you decide to buy, it should be Japanese. Leave the Korean brands alone.

Well I'm a bit biased but the Pioneer Krp-500A is the Carlsberg of TV's . To be honest both technologies offer great TV's. Plasmas are a bit better when it comes to large sizes and are "newer" technology whereas LCD technology has an extremely wide range to choose from. Picture quality is always going to be subjective and a result of tweaking...

I got a 50 inch sony lcd rear projection tv bought it last year and it beats plasma and lcd tv's hands down.Apart from space. In my old place I had a 21 foot living room in my new house its 12 foot so I cant use the TV.

Gutteed so theway I se it is like this

Plasma and lcd can both look good its when you get down to size 40 inch and below I think a top name lcd will beat a top name plasma but 40+ its plasma tv's all the way.

On a side note On a true 1080p tv SD wii look crap next to a 720p set running the same channel.

just go look or your self and decide your self if you cant tell the difence then you wont notice the difrence so get the cheeper 1 if thats what you prefer
but plasma is way better for picture quality in a normal room if your room has loads of sun light or the screen is facing the window get a lcd
although if your watching mostly at night plasma is still better in that surcemstance

                              cant spell for shit

Well now that pioneer is stopping the plasma range there are a lot of offers. you can buy a krp-500a for 2800 euro's. so compaired to the next best thing the new neopdp from panasonic that cost's 5799 euro ( in the netherlands ) i think the best thing to do is to buy the krp-500a krp-600a or the pdp-lx5090(h)/6090(h). Than you'll have the reference class tv set to use for a year 5-10 when that is broken there are a lot of cheap better develloped oled or other technologies. When you look at the new led or lcd tv's from this time you'll see that the technology isn't all that yet. And don't look at specs like contrast ratio, that is a lot of bull... Take a look with your own eyes in the audio/video specialist. And trust me, till this day Nothing beats a KURO.

And if you are wondering what tv i have: A KURO no, i wish. But i was stupid enough to be tricked in buying top of the line full-hd lcd a year ago without comparing it with my own eyes. Now i'm selling this one and will go for the kuro for the above reason.

and for the power consumption: a plasma will use full power per pixel when it's bright white, and next to nothing when black.

a lcd uses full power with bright white, but also with complete black.

so when u are looking the whole day a movie shot from a xenon bulb the plasma will draw the most power from the grid.

A test had showed that when you'll watch in an hour 15 minutes of sport, 15, minutes of movie, 15 minutes of news and 15 minutes of other diverse the plasma and lcd will use a bit less but not a lot.

and how many hours a day are you watching tv?

are you watching movies ( which are generally darker)

i know that this thread is going on for over a year or so, and will the thread starter let us know his findings.

                                kind regards
