    Samsung LE40R88BD

Hi peeps, my son has a Samsung tv model LE40R88BD, it was his flat mates who left it when he moved out because it wouldn't switch on, it will go onto standby with a flashing light sequence, flashes twice rapidly then 7 single flashes and starts again with a clicking sound. What I need to know is:does this light sequence refer to a particular fault, is it a common fault and is a diy repair possible? failing that can anyone reccomend a repairer in the Birmingham area, many thanks

That's a new one on me, never seen these flash out a fault code (because they're so simple).

First things first, get the back off and look at the power supply board and check for 4 domed up capacitors; If they're OK, then replace the main board (there's bugger all else inside them!)

The problem with the main board was that the 8 pin SOIC EPROM on the back of the board had been corrupted; we see it all the time when the TV has been used with a PSU with bulging caps to the point it won't come on any more. Sometimes you can get away with shorting out pins 5+8 (IIRC), lot of the time though, you need to hot air it off and replace it.
