would you say that full hd would be needed on a 42" would only be using it for HD channels not bothered about blue ray and so on.

There are loads of offers out there, Richer Sounds have great deals on lots of TV's.
I have an LG 42" Plasma which is 1080i, but I have to say its really good.
1080p if you are going to watch loads of Blurays, becuase TV and Sat will not broadcast full HD 1080 - they bandwidth is not availble up to now.Comment

all depends on how much SD content you plan to watch.
I have a 3yr old LG 50" 720 Plasma.
Most of what we watch downstairs is 70/30 split in favour of SD.
I have found that the picture will look better when upscaling an SD broadcast to 720 than 1080
And The LG does a very good job Downscaling 1080i/p material to 720p
when playing 1080 content from PS3/Bluray/HTPC etc
Whereas upstairs in my Games room everything is HD
PS3
360
Freesat HD
Popcorn Hour
So i went for a 32" 1080p LCD set in there.Comment
