    TV problems

Posting in regards to a curious tv prob redspider is having.
For some reason, his vermin box and his media drive have stopped working on his living room tv. they work fine on another tv.
His xbox works on every input port on his living room tv.
So, his vermin box and media drive working on his bedroom tv rules out them as the cause, however his xbox working on all ports on living room tv rules out the tv as the cause right?
im at a loss myself, hopefully you guys can help him out

While your at it, you might aswell check for FW updates. Maybe adding more codecs ect. As he running films from a HDD then always worth checking

his media drive takes care of codecs itself, but i shall pass on the fw thoughts.

check tv's earth connection to the mains ... you can get a simple plug-in tester for the wall plug outlet socket cheap enough (or test between earth and live for 240v) then check for continuity on tv's power lead (usually kettle lead) from earth pin (middle plug pin) to middle pin other end..... also, ask if he's removed any scart leads or aerial wires from tv since it used to work.. also can point to a signal earthing problem as it may of been getting earthed through scart/aerial.

a dodgy earth can cause all sorts of problems like this... seen lots of un-earthed wall sockets when working for sky.. the first amstrad digiboxes used to throw a wobbler without an earth...
                also a safety risk.

he has moved it from tv stand and placed it on the wall.. but ALL connections on tv still work with xbox. hdmi, scart, phonos, component..could the earth wire stop certain things from working?
also, tv is hard wired..not kettle or figure 8

.. no. he swapped the scart/hdmi lead ends around.
ie, the end that was in the vermin stb is now in tv, and vice versa...and it works! how ~~~~ing stupid is that?

with the vermin box, i simply plugged a 4way scart extension into the tv and plugged the scart into that.
what i did had no reason to work but it did so woo to the hoo and a ding dang doo.
many thanks for input, brethren. thanks and scale clicks all round. help yourself to biscuits.
