Workgroup to Domain

Hi I am helping a friend move around 6 computers from a workgroup running XP onto a domain this weekend. I want to keep alll their desktop/profile settings in the move. I have heard there can be problems with Outlook emails and internet favourites not moving across properly. I had thought just copying the users profile across would be ok but apparently this dosent work properly. Has anyone managed to complete the move successfully?? Cheers for any tips etc.
