What do I need to get to extend my wireless network?

I would like to add strength to my wireless network, my brother lives across the street from me wants to have access to my network as well with my current router from comcast he can't access the connection. I have one of the newer modems that has telephone and wifi built into it as well. I was told i should get a wireless range extender if so which is the most affordable and the best brand to buy? When I mean affordable in the $100.00 to $150.00 range.

Get 2 netgear routers and set them up as wifi repeaters.

Have a look on youtube. really easy to set up and cheap.

Set one as the base station that's plugged in to your main router then put the 2nd net gear up stairs as a repeater that will connect to your base station.

WGR614 work well and is what I use

Note they only work in wep but just hide the ssid and you should have any problems.

Yes get two routers and set them as repeaters.
I would preffer that u can flash with Tomato or DDwrt. Firmware

You can always get external antennas so make sure that your new router doesn't have the build in antennas and has way to unscrew current antennas

How far apart are the houses?

You may not need extra routers, just a new antenna & a high powered usb dongle.

If your router has an external antenna that can be removed, you can fit it with a high gain anetnna for about ?10.

Your brother will need to pick up a 1000mW usb wi-fi dongle, ebay usually has some. Make sure it also has an external antenna that can be upgraded.

You should be able to get strong connections over 100m once set up.
