    wireless network adapter wont connect

hi there lads, i bought a ralink usb network adapter to connect my computer upstairs to my wireless router downstairs, i installed it on the pc and connected the usb network adapter, it picked up my wireless router and when i entered the password it said link strength was 95% and signal strength was 75%, on the pc when i run the mouse over the little connection icon in the bottom righthand corner it says the speed is 54Mbps, the signal is very good, and the status is acquiring network address, i leave it search away for a few mins and as soon as it picks up my ip address it just automaticaly disconnects, any body any ideas whats up, my daughters laptop connects to the wireless router no problem at all.....

      Have you rebooted your router?

Try with everything that connects to the router switched off. Reboot the router and swith your PC using the adaptor on. Try connecting. If it doesn't connect reboot the router while the PC is on.

It does sound like an IP conflict.

Try changing the channel output of the router it could be something interfering with your output.
