So you can get into the wireless router's interface through your computer, yes? If so, try changing the wireless router to 'Access Point' mode. Let us know if it works for you.

has the router got a inbuilt firewall which is blocking your internet connection which you have enabled ?

So do you now have 2 routers plugged in? one virgin with an ethernet leading out into your new one?
if so have you rebooted the virgin router/modem after you connected the new one to it. most of the ones i've set up to the old virgin modems ave been straight plug and play and just a case of changing the wireless name and password, turn the original virgin one off connect wire to new un then reboot them both, done..

Or is it one through the phone line? adsl; abit more fiddly as you have to put your details in it that was on the virgin modem, user and pass that virgin would of sent you on the original setup.

Need to know

You need to know who made your router. If you can access the router's interface (192.168.1.1) , you can tell by the Login and Password used (cisco is "admin" and "admin"), others use different combos of L/P. If you know what they are a simple google search will tell you who it was made by. Once you get into the interface look at the TABs for "Update", find the "Firmware" version and google that for info on model number. Go to makers site and download the right software, use setup and enjoy.

If you just play with setting not knowing what your doing your just wasting your time. All routers are different so it's helpfull to know which one you have.

with virgin modems its has been know that when you put it on a wifi router and cant get net access you have to switch both of for say half an hour then power both back on, sounds mad i know but had to do this a few times for other folks and it works, got this info form virgin themselves a few years back

why dont you just phone vm up and tell them your modem broke they'll send you out a new vm super hub router (thats what i did problem solved) disconnect modem tho as they'll prob do a check for you

First make sure that the network cable is plugged in correctly from modem to yellow lan connection at back of router then turn off the modem and router at the same time for 30 seconds then back on so the router can find the correct mac and ip adress

I would just like to thank you all for your help/suggestions. Managed to solve my problem. A little embarrishing really, i was just over complicated setup! Reset router and started a fresh and simply plug and played router to modem & joined the wireless network it had created. Only used router web based setup to add WPA2 security.
