advice setting up nas

hi there im on virgin 60 meg with a superhub and ive bought a
gigabit network switch a iomega 2tb nas drive and ive wired it all up with cat5e i access it all via the iomega software provided
on my laptop wich is wireless the prob is im not very happy with the transfer speeds if i plug my external drive in to the nas to copy over some files software videos and the like the transfers seem to run about 2 mbs if i plug that same drive into my laptop it seems to run at 4.09 mbs to transfer 90gb it says its gonna take 6 hrs
thats not great the nas streams movies ok no probs there its just
the transfers any advice please i would love to make my network faster thanks

Iomega nas drives are very poorly rated. However your external drive can't be very good either if it's transfer speeds are 4 mbs whilst connected to your laptop.

transfer speeds

downloaded 3.5 gb iso over network at 6.7 mb
then downloaded straight from my ordinary iomega drive same iso
38 mb what does this say about nas
