    NAS Buffalo Linkstation Bittorrent

Hi guys has anyone had any experience with buffalo Nas link station?

Its driving me up the wall.

Hers a list of problems I'm having.

It wont let me format my other external HDD when plugged into the usb port it asks for it to be formatted but no matter what type of format you select it cannot fulfil the task. I have even plugged it into the pc to format it but always wants to reformat it before it will show.

The bit-torrent handler is so hard to understand, is it me ? do you have to add the link every time you want to download a file ?

    Really appreciate your help guys

Are you sure the USB port isn't just there for plugging in a drive to backup the contents of the NAS rather than to be used for sharing external disks?

    Which model is it?

my nas drive is plugged into router by lan cable no usb and setup by disc.

NAS (Network Attached Storage) provides a way to connect a storage device to a local area network such as a home/office WiFi system. NAS drives are different from external hard drives as they don’t directly connect to a computer; instead they connect to a network’s router. They’re an alternative to buying a traditional file server and act as a central data source for all devices connected to the network, a NAS drive is simply a network hard drive. Not only can a NAS device be used for file sharing over a local network and as a sound backup tool, but they can be used as a multi-media streaming device to access music & video files from desktop PCs, laptops & tablets.

Can your nas use 2tb external drive without maybe having to update software. I had to update software on my zyxel to make 3tb usb drive compatible. If it's an older buffalo it may only support 1tb usb drive

How many bays does your NAS have? and how many are populated?

You could, if space is there, take the 2tb out of the enclosure and add it to the nas, giving you the 5tb over the nas

Don't forget most isp's block almost all torrent sites. Try a torrent file on your laptop using a torrent client like utorrent so you know that particular torrent site isn't blocked them load the same torrent into the nas bitorrent client.

No additional client should be needed. The bittorent client I have on my zyxel is just as simple as uploading a torrent file or torrent url from anywhere on my network or beyond if I connect remotely and just let it download. There is a couple I know of that need you to use them through a Web browser. I'm not familiar with the buffalo. Don't they have specific forum where you might get better help with the setup

                            From the manual

"Note: Hard drives formatted with NTFS, exFAT, or HFS+ will have read-only access"

You are formatting the UBS drive as fat32 rather than NTFS?

Don't know if you've downloaded NAS Navigator from their site, or if you have it, but the setup for Bittorrent is on part of that program that you install on your computer.
