Recently bought a router tenda model w311r followed instructions for wireless set up wan from after running setup disc connected all earthnet cables as im connected via virgin cable but wont connect to internet i think ive configured everything is there anyone out there that can help!!!
the lan works fine sorted customised setting on laptop from private to public

have you tried to connect the wifi without the security.. are are using the proprietry connection software (if there is any) to make the connection are are using thew crappy windows gui to do it?

turn everything off, then in order with 30 secs betrween. router, modem then pc. if this fails, reset the router via the reset button(use a pen) if fails again, there is something wrong witht the router

setup with disc including security no mac filtering tho till the other computer is connected.
enable https and disable http if you have.
change password
limit dhcp to your network size if you use.
setup policy for network - sets the rules for the networked computers like the net and also might need to have wireless web access enabled.
upgrade firmware (only use lan/ethernet when upgrading)

would i have to reset router and run setup again for security settings

if you are now connected without security you know that the wifi part is ok and that nodes will talk with the router etc.. now start introducing security, why not start with wep first then move up to wpa etc..

would i need to put the disc back in my lappy and start again though?

not normally, you access you router via its IP address in your browser,, now that your pc/laptop has established an IP address from the router you can now go to the security part and set up encryption... .. Make sure your SSID is not hidden so that it can be seen when scanned for. I would try 128bit wep first. Make a note of the key (write it down somewhere) and then use the connection application that shows the wifi connection signal on your windows, you will loose connection to the router but you will be able to see the ssid in available networks. Click on it and it should ask you for a wep key.. input the key and see if you get connection... if this works you can then try wpa which uses a password or pass phrase that you will set and is easier than a wep key to remember. Once you have established a wpa connection and maintained it for an hour or so and after a rebbot or two then you can go about making your network (SSID) hidden... Keep you ethernet cable handy in case you need to reconnect via wire and have another play..

got to ip address found security but no settings just filter may try setup again?

blimey just had a look around the net for support on that kit, basically the support is bollocks..

there must be somewhere in the router when you are able to configure the wifi security/encrpytion... can you take a screen shot of the main menu screen of your router.. blank out any personal info etc.. we need to get an idea of what menu (configurable functions) looks like on this box..

am not familiar with the router you have.. I do not need to use a set up disk to configure any routers I have set up in past though... the main application is on the router and normally accessible via your your browser. A setup CD should just load the connection application for your help you configure your wifi adapter and do nothing to the router itself... However i may stand corrected..

Do you have a soft copy of your manual in pdf or doc format that we can view..?
