need new Antenna for my g54s rother please help

hi guys looking to get a new 4 dBi Detachable High Gain Omni Antenna or what 1 will work best in my hose. cos i get poor signal in my house on my ps3 and my lappy with it.

please can someone advise me on what 1 is best cos there is 2 or 3 dif ones for my router.

Ideally you should strengthen you laptop signal not your router signal because the stronger your router signal the more people will have access to your network, can you not hardwire your PS3 to your router?

any omni antenna will do as long as it is the right connector.

no not really m8. my ps3 is in the other room and i cant hard wire it. and i am not sure on what u mean by the lappy signal? its a Dell Latitude D420 and i am not sure what the wifi chip supports? wireless wise? i think i've got it set up as wpa i think m8.

Wireless signals don't pass through walls, it's that simple. You'll be getting reflected signals arriving back and forth with slight variations in the timings, hence the poor performance. An external omni might help if it is high enough gain, but ignore manufacturers claims of gain figures on these rubber-duck type omni's, they are totally made up. If you've ever taken one apart, you'll see the proof. A standard omni is made up of a di-pole. To get gain, you have to stack di-poles on top of each other. 2 Dipoles is not twice as good as one, and four isn't double 2. The theory is quite complex, but a big gain antenna is quite large. Anyway, I digress. I think you would benefit more from a router with MIMO technology (Google it if your unsure)

i dont wanna get a new router m8. as i like this 1. and i've not had it long. is there any way i can find out what the wireless chip in the lappy supports. [wifi wise] and mabay i can set it to something else and i'll get a better signal from it. and i've got the newist drivers on as well. both router and lappy.

change the channel that the router is set at, may work.
I changed my router to an N router to obtain a better signal, did not work .
I found having a higher DBI antenna on my laptop does help, but the reason i bought my USB wireless adapter

Open the laptop up (usually a door underneath to expose the radio card). If there are 2 u.fl connectors (tiny brass connectors) on the card, you could do a modification to the laptop, and cut the lead, connect to a bnc socket and drill a hole in the back of the laptop and mount it. I did that to my Sony Vaio and I can connect a multitude of different antennas, including a 29db 3ft dish I use for signal testing (I install wireless networks) I have achieved 75km links doing just that. 17db from the radio card, no boosters needed.
