can slave router be used as hub ?

Internet connected devices are growing under the tv but our main router is upstairs. I started running ethernet cables but there must be a better practical solution. I have set up wireless bridges in the past but a hard wired connection is needed here. I was thinking about a hub or switch. Could I use one of many redundant routers I have to simply send the internet down stairs via cable to a 'slave' router sat behind the tv giving me several ports to connect more devices without losing speed?

An unmanaged 4/5 port switch is about a fiver and won't cause any issues even if you have to daisy chain them.
