Wifi signal booster help

Hi can anybody advise me on whats the best and affordable way to boost my wifi signal from my orange wireless broadband livebox?..

I have heard of wifi bridges, repeaters and boosters, do these need to be connected to my livebox modem via n ethernet cable or can i place them elsewhere in the house?

Any advise will b well appreciated
