Well, if its a "New" build, check your HDD cable to your harddrive. is it mounted correctly - pin 1 on the cable = pin 1 on the board = pin 1 on the HDD.

If it is an ATA drive, check that the jumpers on the harddrive is set according to your configuration. Lets say your hdd is jumped to "Master with slave present", and there is no slave present (e.g. a CD-Drive), then change the jumper settings to "single drive" or Master W/O slave"
If your CD/DVD and your harddrive is mounted on the same cable, check that one is slave, and one is master - or the controller will get confused.

If its an old PC (And it probably is) - check that the harddrive spins up, clean the PC inside, remove dust, check cables (Pull out - and then reseat) etc, etc.
Listen for odd sounds from the harddrive - usually indicates a faulty drive.

i recon something has got hot n come loose

cable has popped out of hdd or the power has cable has stopped working
change the power socket plug with another floating around in ur box

also check the ram that also pops out sometimes and u wont be able to boot to windows without ram
