pc makes a high pitched noise but won't turn on

Wife has asked me why her friends pc won't switch on but only makes high pitched noise. The only time I have had this happen was when my moby gave up the ghost on an old pc. Would I be right in thinkin it's not worth spending time trying to fix this...I will add though that it only started this after friends hubby pulled out keyboard and mouse in a hissy fit

check all connections...pul them out and seat again, make sure the connection is tight......could also be power supply, , connections dusty, etc but you need to tell us more, like does PC make any beeps sounds first?

No beeps as far as I know smokin. I haven't got my hands on it yet. But I suppose I could just take it to bits and re build as a matter of course seein as it'll only take 10 mins. I've got a spare psu lyin about to try as well..Thanks for the pointers

After what you have said I would guess that the USB port has shorted the board when the keyboard and mouse were pulled out. Try booting with no USB connectors inserted and see what happens. If you have the option to disable your USB ports in the bios ( if you can get into it of course) also try that, but make sure you have a PS2 keyboard to hand to change things back !
