    windows recovery virus

    hi guys i've just installed xp on my laptop took me ages then all of a sudden a virus was on there displaying windows recovery
    is there any way to get rid of this tried spy sweeper in safe mode no good

    is it the win 7 virus? if so i had post here a few weeks ago and you will find lots of advice in it from other members.

          you did a fresh install with a full format? if you did, i highly doubt its a virus, rather a windows error

            it came up with a stupid screen at first saying
            windows recovery blah blah scan this and that
            windows start programs have dissapeared
            nothing showing in documents nor can i get into system restore

              so you did format the c drive?
              if you did, its a bad install. try another copy of xp or win7

                Also, make sure you're not connected to the internet in any way while installing.

                Previously had a nightmare when installing Win 2000 Pro. Always found virus' in the system once I got it all up & running. But if I unplugged the network cable before starting the install everything was virus free.

                  When doing an install of XP and before connecting to the internet go into Services and disable Messenger, that will help stop some of the crap until you get upgraded to sp3

                    ok guys reformated my pc and installed xp to service pack 3
                    plugged in my external device and theres nothing there i'm really concerened i'm runnng malwarebytes on it now and i can see the files on there but they seem hidden this was plugged in whe i got the virus attack on the pc
                    i've got years of photos on that external harddrive
                    is there anything that i can do

                      Had a similar problem recently all of my folders where
                      converted into an invalid shortcuts
                      I could see the data was there by virtue of the free space left on the disk
                      Icare data recovery to the rescue .Took all day to scan and save however I have it all back
                      goodluck regards

                        try starting up in safe mode with networking and run malware bytes then starup in marmal mode works a treat for me gud luck hope this helps
